Attack on the Human Rights Campaigners on the International Human Rights Day - 2013

Family members of disappeared and human rights activists came under the  attack of Sinhala racists in eastern Sri Lanka.


In the presence of police officers, more than twenty-five chauvinist thugs have attacked a peaceful protest staged by The Committee for Investigation of Disappearances near the Trincomalee bus station on International Human Rights Day, 10th of December 2013.


Suntharam Mahendran, secretary of the Committee was also threatened by police.

A united struggle to reclaim seized homelands

Welcoming the initiative to launch a worldwide campaign againt the state grabbing Tamil Land in Lanka, the NSSP urged for the unity of the affected within the country, in reclaiming their traditional homelands.

NSSP Internal Secretary comrade Ranath Kumarasinghe said in London that it is essential to build alliances within the country of those chased away from their lands by state atrocities while awareness and solidarity is built globally.

Take action against culprits without delay

The NSSP has questioned the delay in taking action against suspects who have been arrested for drug and illicit alcohol deals.


In a statement, Comrade Vickramabahu Karunaratne has asked whether some people at the top, who have gained access to the government recently, are helping the culprits and misdirecting the investigators.

No to HSZ | No to land grabs | Investigate war crimes

The NSSP calls upon the Sri Lankan government to dismantle high security zones (HSZ) in the north and hand back land grabbed by the military in the north to its rightful owners.


In a press briefing held in Colombo Comrade Vickramabahu Karunaratne said that there can be no excuse for the military to keep Tamil people's land under their control. The NSSP General Secretary also emphasized that any probe on war crimes either international or local should be conducted by independent investigators who have proven credibility.
